Yannik Brandt takes on new challenges

After a year at the ADAC Formula 4, the German-Swiss Yannik Brandt now enters new territory. Next weekend he is going to celebrate his premiere at the AUDI Sport TT Cup on the Hockenheimring. The brand trophy is an inherent part of the German Touring Car Masters (DTM).

As one of the youngest participants Yannik Brandt tackled the ADAC Formula 4 last year. The young driver from Zurich showed a great performance and ended up among the top ten of the junior ranking several times. In 2017 he is going to be a rookie again, but this time at the AUDI Sport TT Cup. The brand trophy is going to start into its new season next weekend on the Hockenheimring.

“I’m excited for things to finally start again. The year at the Formula 4 was very educational and gave me a lot. I’m now taking a further step in my career with the switch to the AUDI brand trophy. My goal is to establish myself in the touring car and GT racing”, the 16-year-old driver explained.

He’s definitely in the right environment now. The AUDI Sport TT Cup is a part of the framework of the German Touring Car Masters (DTM). The renowned championship belongs to the darlings of the public in Germany and always attracts more than 60.000 fans on the racing weekends. “That’s surely going to be a great feeling to start in such a big setting”, said Yannik excitedly.

All in all, 20 vehicles are going to start each weekend. Several of these are going to be manned by VIP-guests. The Cup-version is based on the AUDI TT RS and supplies 228 kW (310 HP) with a weight of only 1.125kg. The racing version profits from the technical innovations of the series model – especially regarding lightweight construction. All vehicles are going to be supplied and prepared by the Audi Sport GmbH – this guarantees equal chances.

Yannik already had the chance to examine his new working equipment carefully during an official test day at the beginning of April: “It was a lot of fun to drive the car. Of course the feeling is different than in a Formula vehicle. I’m very confident and want to establish myself among the top five of the rookie ranking.”

All an all the racing calendar of the AUDI Sport TT Cup consists of eight races all over Germany, the Netherlands and Austria. One of the highlights is going to be the start within the framework of the 24h-race on the Nürburgring from May 25th – 28th. The races are going to be broadcast on the German sports-channel Sport1 as well as via live-stream at www.audi.com.
