First rookie points for Yannik Brandt

Second weekend at the ADAC Formula 4

After his early falling out at the season kick-off in Oschersleben, Yannik Brandt now had to finish all three races on the Sachsenring. In the end he ended up a little behind his own expectations but was able to collect first points on the rookie list of rankings.

The ADAC Formula 4 had not started as hoped for the Switzerland resident. At the second race in Oschersleben Yannik got involved in an accident and had to end the weekend prematurely. “My priority is to process my disappointment from Oschersleben. Now it’s important to collect racing kilometers and to cross the finish line”, Yannik explained beforehand.

The Sachsenring with its 3.671m is one of the most challenging tracks on the racing calendar of the high-speed youngster school. “You feel like on a rollercoaster, it goes up and down all the time. That’s obviously a lot of fun but also presents a lot of opportunities for making mistakes”, reports the Lechner Racing Team protégé.

During the free trainings, Yannik got used to the conditions and started into qualifying confidently. Ending up on 16th place of his group he missed entering the ranked races directly though and had to secure his ticket through the repechage. In the end he came in on the good ninth place and was safely in the next round: “My goal was to always end up in the final races this year. I immediately managed to do this in Oschersleben. Here, I unfortunately had to take a small detour.”

From 30th starting positon, Yannik experienced a difficult first race though. Numerous safety car phases made a catching up race almost impossible and the German crossed the finish line on the 27th place in the end. The second race went considerably better. In front of 12.000 spectators, Yannik showed strong overtaking maneuvers on Sunday morning and managed to jump to the cup ranks on 24th place. “This was a good race. I fought my way forward well and the speed was right. My first points on the rookie list of rankings are a great reward for this”, the rookie rejoiced at the finish line.

The safety car had to be used during the third race again and made it difficult for Yannik to gain some ground. Ending up on the 27th place he wasn’t able to repeat his result from the morning – his summary was still positive though: “It was important to me to let go of the accidents in Oschersleben and free my mind again. I’ve managed to do that and am now ready for attack again. It was nice to cross the finish line in all three races without any bigger difficulties. I’ll now continue to work hard until the Lausitzring and am going to fully attack again there.”

From June 3rd – 5th the Formula racing series of the second biggest automobile club in the world is going to be a guest in the Lausitz and is going to experience its season highlight there. The youngsters are going to start together with the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) and the ADAC GT Masters on the same racing weekend.
